Maybach

Summary
Maybach Family Vineyards, established in 2004 in Napa Valley, is a boutique producer focused on Cabernet Sauvignon from their Mount Veeder Weitz Vineyard and Calistoga Amoenus Vineyard, both characterized by volcanic soils and elevated positions. Under winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown, the small-production wines undergo minimal-intervention fermentation in small tanks followed by French oak aging, resulting in highly sought-after, single-vineyard expressions that have earned cult status.
Heritage & Leadership
Maybach Family Vineyards began operations in 2004 when Bob Maybach established the winery in Napa Valley. The winery operates under the direction of winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown, who has overseen production since the inaugural vintage. The Maybach family maintains private ownership of the venture, with second-generation family member Chris Maybach serving as proprietor.
Vineyards & Wines
Maybach sources fruit from two primary vineyard sites in Napa Valley. The Materium Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the Weitz Vineyard on Mt. Veeder, situated on the western mountains of Napa Valley. Their Amoenus Cabernet Sauvignon derives from the Amoenus Vineyard in Calistoga at the valley's northern end. Both sites focus exclusively on Cabernet Sauvignon production. The volcanic soils and elevated positioning of these mountain and hillside vineyards provide the foundation for their wine program.
Philosophy & Practice
Maybach's winemaking approach centers on small-lot production of single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines undergo fermentation in small tanks, followed by aging in French oak barrels. Thomas Rivers Brown oversees all aspects of production, maintaining a focus on expressing each vineyard's specific characteristics through minimal intervention in the cellar. The winery produces limited quantities, with each vineyard bottled separately to highlight its distinct origin.
