In the late 20th century, the ownership structure changed when Taylor Fonseca acquired the company in 2001. A significant transition occurred in 2008 when Real Companhia Velha, one of Portugal's oldest wine companies dating back to 1756, purchased Delaforce, bringing the historic Port house under Portuguese ownership. This acquisition represented a notable shift in the Port industry, which had long been dominated by British interests.

Delaforce sources its grapes from Portugal's Douro Valley, the world's oldest demarcated wine region. The company has historically been associated with Quinta da Corte, a vineyard property in the Douro that contributes to their Port production. Delaforce produces a comprehensive range of Port styles, including Ruby, Tawny, Late Bottled Vintage (LBV), and Vintage Ports. Among their most recognized offerings is "His Eminence's Choice," a tawny Port named after Cardinal Hume of England who selected this particular blend.
