Pegau
History and Background
Château Pegau, acquired by Domaine du Pegau on January 31, 2012, is a historic Provençal farmhouse located in Sorgues, between Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Avignon. Situated on a 41-hectare vineyard featuring a mix of terroirs, including iconic rolled pebbles, the estate produces distinctive Côtes du Rhône Villages, Côtes du Rhône reds and whites, and characterful red and rosé table wines. Once a boatmen's relay, the 1,200 m² country house now houses a wine cellar, with plans to renovate part of the property to host customers. The vineyard comprises 25 hectares of Côtes du Rhône, 5 hectares of Côtes du Rhône Villages, and 11 hectares of Vin de France.
Vineyards and Terroir
Château Pegau's vineyards, located just south of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, span 40 hectares on clay-rich soils covered with rolled pebbles, mirroring the Rhône Valley's iconic terroir. The estate cultivates classic Rhône varieties such as Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Cinsault for its red wines, emphasizing spice and body. White wines feature a vibrant, saline character achieved through a blend of Clairette, Bourboulenc, Grenache Blanc, and Ugni Blanc. With vines planted as early as 1950, Château Pegau embodies the rich diversity of the Côtes-du-Rhône and Côtes-du-Rhône Villages appellations, delivering wines that balance tradition, complexity, and southern Rhône elegance.
