Geantet-Pansiot

Summary
Domaine Geantet-Pansiot is a three-generation family estate in Gevrey-Chambertin managing 12 hectares of predominantly Pinot Noir vineyards across village, Premier Cru, and Grand Cru classifications on the limestone-clay soils of the Côte de Nuits. Their winemaking balances traditional Burgundian methods with selective modernization, featuring hand harvesting, partial de-stemming, cold maceration, and oak aging calibrated to each wine's classification level.
Heritage & Leadership
Domaine Geantet-Pansiot was established in 1955 when Edmond Geantet and his wife Bernadette Pansiot founded the estate in Gevrey-Chambertin, combining their family names to create the domaine's identity. The estate remained under Edmond's direction until the 1980s, when his son Vincent Geantet assumed leadership, bringing his own perspective while maintaining the family's winemaking traditions. The third generation entered the picture in the early 2000s when Vincent's son Fabien joined the domaine, creating a multi-generational approach to their winemaking. This family continuity has provided stability and a consistent vision for the domaine over its nearly seven decades of operation in the heart of Burgundy's Côte de Nuits.
Vineyards & Wines
Domaine Geantet-Pansiot manages approximately 12 hectares of vineyards, with holdings concentrated primarily in Gevrey-Chambertin. Their portfolio includes parcels in the Grand Cru Charmes-Chambertin, which represents the pinnacle of their production. At the Premier Cru level, they cultivate vines in Gevrey-Chambertin "Le Poissenot," along with several other premier cru parcels. The domaine also produces village-level wines from Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, and Marsannay. While Pinot Noir dominates their production, reflecting the red wine tradition of the Côte de Nuits, they also produce limited quantities of Chardonnay. The vineyards are planted on the classic limestone and clay soils that characterize the Côte de Nuits, providing the mineral foundation that defines their wines.
Philosophy & Practice
The winemaking approach at Geantet-Pansiot balances traditional Burgundian methods with selective modern techniques. Their process typically begins with careful sorting of hand-harvested grapes, followed by partial de-stemming that varies according to vintage conditions. Before fermentation, the domaine employs cold maceration to extract color and flavor compounds. Fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled vats, allowing for precise management of the process. For aging, the wines are transferred to French oak barrels, with the percentage of new oak adjusted based on the wine's classification and the character of the vintage. Village-level wines generally see less new oak than their Premier and Grand Cru counterparts. The domaine practices minimal intervention during the aging process and limits filtration before bottling, aiming to preserve the authentic expression of their terroir. This methodical approach to viticulture and vinification reflects their commitment to producing wines that faithfully represent their Gevrey-Chambertin origins.
