Duhart-Milon, Chateau

Summary
Château Duhart-Milon is a 76-hectare Fourth Growth estate in Pauillac owned by Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite), producing Cabernet Sauvignon-led Bordeaux blends from deep gravel soils over limestone adjacent to Château Lafite Rothschild. The estate employs plot-by-plot harvesting and vinification under Lafite's technical team, aging their wines for 14-16 months in French oak barrels before creating their grand vin and second wine Moulin de Duhart.
Heritage & Leadership
Château Duhart-Milon's history traces back to the early 18th century, when it was owned by Sieur of Duhart, a gun-runner to Louis XIV who gave the estate his name. The property earned classification as a Fourth Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. A defining moment came in 1962 when Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) acquired the estate, integrating it into their portfolio of Pauillac properties. The technical team from Château Lafite Rothschild, led by Technical Director Eric Kohler, now oversees both estates.
Vineyards & Wines
The 76-hectare vineyard sits on the western side of Pauillac, directly adjacent to Château Lafite Rothschild. Deep gravel soils atop limestone characterize the terroir, with plantings divided between 67% Cabernet Sauvignon and 33% Merlot. The average vine age stands at 30 years. The estate produces two wines: the grand vin Château Duhart-Milon and a second wine, Moulin de Duhart.
Philosophy & Practice
The winemaking approach mirrors the technical precision of Château Lafite Rothschild. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, followed by 14-16 months of aging in French oak barrels, with 40-50% new oak used each vintage. The team employs strict plot-by-plot selection during harvest and vinification. Each vineyard block is vinified separately to preserve its distinct characteristics before final blending.
